New Orleans is a great city for a plethora of reasons- architecture, history, jazz, tasty beverages, and of course.. food. We recently spent a short weekend in New Orleans and here is a day of delicious eats.
Started the day with breakfast at Jimmy J’s Cafe- a small restaurant on Chartres Street that typically has a line out the door. We were fortunate enough to arrive early and get the last open table before the line formed. After sharing a half pitcher of mimosas, I enjoyed the Truffle Egg Scramble (pictured). The description in the menu perfectly described this delight. “Truffle Egg Scramble on a croissant with arugula salad & Parmesan cheese & served with home fries”
After breakfast, we walked around the city and then stopped for cocktails on the patio at Pat O’Brien’s.
We wandered and explored a bit more- enjoying the street performers along the way. Next up, late brunch at Brennan’s. (Pictured: cocktails at the bar while we waited for our table)
Turtle soup is a must! I have to admit, although everything at Brennan’s is amazing, I made the reservation so I could have their turtle soup. It was definitely worth it.
Since I was already full, I ordered an appetizer as my main course- New Orleans BBQ Lobster. It was small, but perfectly portioned for what I wanted and of course it was delicious. (Sorry for the shadows- but we had a great table indoors next to the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the courtyard.)
My husband had the Croque Madame Royal, served with Belleguarde bread, proscuitto, truffle, Gruyere, arugula and duck egg. I had a bite and could only describe it as “heavenly”. I wonder if Brennan’s has anything on the menu we would not like?!
While we enjoyed a great amount of delicious eats (many not pictured), we also had a wonderful time taking in the city. Here’s a few additional photos. Happy travels!
